# Install DMLY as an app

> Get the DMLY app on Android, or install the dashboard from your browser on a computer or any other device.

There are two ways to have DMLY as an app, and which one you want depends on the device.

On **a phone or tablet**, use the [DMLY mobile app](/getting-started/mobile-app). It is a
real app from the store, built for running the day from your pocket: the inbox on every
channel, today's bookings, the money in, and push notifications when something needs you.

On **a computer, or any device the app doesn't cover**, install the dashboard straight from
your browser. That gives you the full dashboard in its own window, with its own icon and no
address bar around it.

    email and password, and pick your workspace.

    to download yet. Until it lands, install the dashboard from Safari using the steps
    below; it works well and you can switch to the app later.

What the app does, screen by screen, is on [The DMLY mobile app](/getting-started/mobile-app).

## Install the dashboard from your browser

This is the route for a computer, and for any phone or tablet the mobile app doesn't cover
yet, including **iPhone and iPad** for now.

Be clear about what it is: a browser install (a "web app"), not a download from a store.
That has one practical consequence: **it needs an internet connection**. There is no offline
mode; without a connection the window shows the same error a browser tab would. It also has
no push notifications when it is closed, which is the main thing the mobile app adds.

### On a phone or tablet

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the dashboard">
    Go to [dash.dmly.io](https://dash.dmly.io) in your phone's browser and sign in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add it to your home screen">
    On **iPhone and iPad**, this only works from **Safari**: tap the **Share** button, then
    **Add to Home Screen**, then **Add**.

    On **Android**, prefer the [Play Store app](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.dmly.mobile)
    above. If you would rather not install it, open Chrome's **⋮** menu and choose **Add to
    Home screen** (newer versions of Chrome call it **Install app**), then confirm.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open it from the icon">
    DMLY now sits on your home screen like any other app and opens full screen, without
    the browser around it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### On your computer

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the dashboard">
    Go to [dash.dmly.io](https://dash.dmly.io) in Chrome or Edge and sign in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Install it">
    In **Chrome**, select the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar,
    or the **⋮** menu, where the install option lives if the icon isn't showing.

    In **Edge**, open the **…** menu and choose **Apps → Install this site as an app**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pin it">
    The installed app opens in its own window and appears in your taskbar or dock; pin it
    there and DMLY is one click away all day.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  If the browser offers no install option, you're usually in a browser that doesn't
  support installing web apps (Firefox on desktop, for example) or a private/incognito
  window. Use Chrome, Edge or mobile Safari in a normal window.
</Note>

### What to expect from a browser install

* **It's the web dashboard, exactly.** Every feature works the same, updates arrive the
  moment we ship them, and your login session carries over from the browser you installed
  from.
* **New-message alerts work like the browser.** The Inbox chime and the in-app bell work
  as normal while the window is open. See [Notifications](/inbox/notifications). A browser
  install adds no phone-style push notifications for when it's closed. That is what the
  [mobile app](/getting-started/mobile-app) is for.
* **Uninstalling is ordinary.** Remove the icon like any app: long-press on a phone, or
  the app window's own menu on desktop. Your account and data are untouched; it was only
  ever a window onto the dashboard.
